Bullmastiff Training
Bullmastiff TrainingBullmastiff training is actually an integral part of the dogs growing up and learning stage. The three most important types of training for this hunting or guard dog includes housebreaking, obedience and show handling. You can train your dog on your own by taking a certification course in dog obedience training, with the help of magazine, guides, DVD or video, and books. Alternatively, you can also hire a professional K9 or dog trainer to train your dog. Bullmastiff training will help your dog to understand several aspects and what are his limits. He will learn to channelize his anger or aggression against other people or strangers, bird, cats etc and will not attack anything that moves. Of course this will not happen overnight and will take a lot of time but then it will help your dog to fit into your family with ease and he will also be safe near children. Let us check some of the basic rules that you need to follow throughout the Bullmastiff obedience training session: 1. Patience: patience will always be a virtue and you will require loads of it when training a Bullmastiff puppy. You also need to be consistent with the training, get involved in it completely and make it all seem like fun for your dog. If your dog is unable to follow your instructions, then take it up the next day but don't lose your temper as it might have drastically negative effect on your dog. 2. Age: You can start the obedience training when he is a puppy or as an adult dog. If your dog has a great temperament then the training can be conducted at an older age (like 2 years or 3 years) or else it is always safer to get him to train early (6months to 1 year). 3. Training Duration: The duration of training can vary from one dog to another. For more active dogs like the Bullmastiff, you can have 4hours of optimum efficiency training with 2-3 breaks of 5-10 minutes each. Focus on repeating the training as repetition will help your dog to learn as quickly as possible. 4. Basic Training: Some of the basic training that your Bullmastiff will need is to learn to sit, walk, stay, down, run, and come. One of the important things to remember is that you need to train him in the same way following the same order everyday i.e sit, walk, stay, down, run, and come. You need to also train him to heel and lead. If your dog fails to understand any instruction or command then don't reward him with his favourite treat and start all over again but this time use simple commands. 5. Training Environment: It is important that Bullmastiff training is conducted in a quiet environment to start with and then gradually keep changing the environments so that he is able to adapt to all environments and can control his aggression and other behaviours. The more you train him in an environment complete with distractions, the better he will be. 6. Rewards: Rewards are essential part of Bullmastiff training and should be given immediately after your dog has provided you with the desired response. You can use anything from food treats to a tennis ball for a reward. |
